About Me
From the Blues-Infused Pews to the Grunge-Driven Stage
Matt Suffecool, a musician whose journey from humble beginnings to becoming a revered figure in the music industry is nothing short of remarkable. Born and raised in a small town, Matt’s life was shaped by the rhythms of the church and the soulful melodies of gospel music. From an early age, he was exposed to the power of music, and it would go on to define his life’s purpose.
Early Influences: The Gospel and the Blues
Growing up, Matt Suffecool was immersed in the rich tapestry of gospel music. The church pews served as his first stage, and he quickly developed a deep appreciation for the emotional resonance that music could bring to people’s lives. But Matt’s musical journey didn’t stop at the church doors. He was also drawn to the raw, emotive sounds of the blues, which would later become a defining element of his own musical style.
The Rock and Grunge Connection
As he grew older, Matt found himself drawn to the electrifying energy of rock and the gritty, rebellious spirit of the grunge scene. These influences began to meld with his gospel and blues roots, creating a unique and powerful blend of musical styles that would set him on a path to greatness.
The Journey to Music City: Nashville, TN
At the tender age of 15, armed with dreams of musical stardom, Matt Suffecool embarked on a life-altering journey. He hopped on a Greyhound bus and made his way to the heart of the music industry, Nashville, Tennessee. However, the road to success was far from easy. Matt spent over a year couch surfing, experiencing bouts of homelessness, all in pursuit of his musical aspirations.
Yamaha Sponsored Artist and Business Ventures
Matt’s talent and dedication did not go unnoticed. He earned the prestigious title of Yamaha Sponsored Artist for Drums, solidifying his reputation as a top-tier musician. With the rise of online payments and not wanting to compete with music industry giants, Matt made a strategic move. He was offered the Yamaha Piano Line for most of the state of Virginia, eventually becoming a Yamaha VIP dealer for multiple years. This chapter in his life spanned 15 years, a testament to his commitment and success in the industry.
Evolution into a Producer and Music Business Expert
While Matt continued to make waves as a musician, he also honed his skills on the business side of the music industry. By 2001, he had seamlessly transitioned into a full-fledged producer role, showcasing his versatility and knowledge of the industry.
The Charlotte Connection
In 2017, Matt Suffecool relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina. He opened the Steinway Piano Gallery and became an independent consultant for Steinway, leveraging his deep understanding of piano stores and the music business. This move indirectly rekindled his passion for performing live and connecting with people on a personal level.
The Revival of a Performer
As Matt reconnected with his love for playing and performing live, his blues and grunge influences came to the forefront. His music exudes a powerful blend of bluesy piano licks and grunge-inflected vocals that capture the essence of his musical journey.
